MILBANK

The fully west orientation of this landscape posed the particular challenge of direct sunlight after noon and no tree canopy. This inspired a decidedly coastal-influenced garden.

The client sought an informal landscape that incorporated a variety of colors and textures. From the list of suitable plants for the site, we chose an assortment of drought-tolerant species, which included juniper, redbud, echinacea, catmint, sedum, coreopsis, switchgrass, and rosemary, among others. Many of these were not only well-suited for the conditions, but also native to the region.

The overall garden provides some of the structural elements of a traditional foundation landscape, but with a more contemporary and relaxed aesthetic.
