meddō is a landscape design and installation firm based in Richmond, VA, dedicated to developing sustainable, custom gardens. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Field Lead to join our team. This full-time, year-round, field position involves working collaboratively and independently to ensure the highest standards in landscape installation and maintenance. Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work are essential.

 

Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to the following)​:

 

• Overseeing installation projects and maintenance work

• Coordination of field team and work schedule 

• Delegation of on-site assignments and support of field team

• Sourcing and delivery of materials

• Transporting field team in company vehicles

• Adept use of digital programs (Jobber, Google Workspace, Gusto)

• Identification, installation, and care of a variety of plants, especially native species

• Landscape maintenance tasks (weeding, pruning, edging, mulching, etc.)

• Installation of hardscaping, landscape lighting, and light carpentry

• Ensuring meticulous, safe, and professional job sites at all times

• Use, maintenance, and upkeep of company power equipment and hand tools

• Upholding cleanliness and organization of company property and vehicles

• Ongoing communication with management and clients

• Support and informal training of Field Technicians as needed

• Participation in continued refinement of field operations

 

Requirements:

 

• 3+ years landscaping experience

• Extensive horticultural experience, especially with plants native to the Mid-Atlantic

• Education and/or certification in horticulture, botany, or a related field (preferred)

• 1+ year leadership and/or managerial experience

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

• Punctuality, efficiency, and high standards of professionalism

• Digital proficiency and comfort with tech-based systems

• Ability to regularly and independently lift 50+ pounds

• Ability to drive company vehicles and tow trailers

• Ability to remain on feet for long periods

• Ability to work outdoors in seasonal extremes

 

Hours:

 

This is a full-time, hourly position entailing an average of 32–40 hours per workweek throughout the year, with seasonal variations. During busy seasons, scheduling may include an excess of 40 weekly hours, which are not eligible for overtime pay.

 

Compensation: 

 

Pay is commensurate with experience with a starting salary of $44,000 a year, payable in accordance with our biweekly payroll schedule. The position begins with a 6–8 week mutual trial period to ensure a strong fit on both sides. After six months of employment, we will evaluate your progress and discuss further opportunities for professional growth.
